At Sandy Lane Primary School we believe in ALL of our children achieving the best they can.

We support them in the provision we provide. For us, academic achievement is very important as this offers life opportunities - it can open doors to potential future careers and a sustainable existence in our society.

However, we also believe in the importance of giving children experiences that might be outside of their current life experiences. Both are ‘aspiration-linked’ in terms of widening opportunities and in enabling children to be able to access further possibilities in their futures.

Therefore, we use our Pupil Premium funding in two main ways with both ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ outcomes where impact can be on achievement (‘hard’ outcomes) and self esteem and confidence (‘soft’ outcomes). Both types of outcome have an impact on the children. We use it to support learning in terms of the provision of additional interventions and basic skills  support (Literacy and Numeracy), to give access to clubs and activities and to provide a wider range of learning experiences in different contexts. Pupil Premium is also used to fund additional pastoral support and care for our most vulnerable learners. An example of this are our ELSA sessions where children are in a happier place emotionally to be able to access learning opportunities.

WHAT OFSTED SAID:

• The pupil premium lead has ensured that additional funding to support disadvantaged pupils makes a positive difference to their progress.
• Pupil premium funding is now being used effectively to provide additional staffing,
  appropriate interventions and enrichment activities.
• Consequently, there is evidence that disadvantaged pupils are currently making similar, or better, progress than other
  pupils across the school
• Governors carefully monitor and review the use of additional funding for pupil premium. They check that these funds have a positive impact on pupils’ development and progress
• The attendance of disadvantaged pupils has improved significantly
• The school’s information and evidence from their work show that these pupils are currently making strong progress across the school and the difference in achievement between themselves and other pupils is diminishing.

PUPIL PREMIUM STATEMENT

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding given to schools and academies to:

• Raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers;
• Support children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces.

KEY PRINCIPLES FOR USING THE PUPIL PREMIUM GRANT AT SANDY LANE PRIMARY SCHOOL:

• Sandy Lane Primary School has a school-wide commitment to raise achievements for all pupils including those who are eligible for Pupil Premium and knows that some learners may need to make faster progress than non-eligible pupils and is determined to achieve this.
• Sandy Lane Primary School never confuses eligible pupils with low ability and strives to ‘bring out the best’ in this group of pupils and support them to achieve the highest levels.
• Sandy Lane Primary School creates an overall package of support aimed to tackle the range of barriers including attendance, behaviour, external factors, professional development focussing on improving outcomes for eligible pupils, improving the quality of teaching and learning, language acquisition, parental engagement, opportunities for first-hand experiences and development of literacy and numeracy skills.
• Sandy Lane Primary School uses assessment systems to track and enable thorough analysis of data (Reading, Writing and Maths) to identify pupils who are under achieving and why.
• Sandy Lane Primary School directs resources and interventions to accelerate progress of eligible pupils and close the attainment gap compared to their peers.
• Sandy Lane Primary School uses data to carefully track the impact of targeted spending (interventions, projects or pedagogy) on attainment and progress of eligible pupils.
• The Head Teacher, Deputy Head, School Business Manager and the Inclusion Leader, have a clear overview of how funding is allocated and the difference it is making to the outcomes of pupils.
• Sandy Lane Primary School ensures class teachers, phase leaders and subject leaders know which pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium so they can take responsibility for their provision and accountability is shared across the school.
• Sandy Lane Primary School’s Governing Body is ambitious for pupils and closely monitors the school’s effectiveness in closing the gap between different groups of pupils.
