I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half term break. Monday 23rd February is an INSET day for staff, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming all of our pupils back to school on Tuesday.

As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, I would also like to extend my warmest wishes to all members of our community who will be observing.

At Sandy Lane, we are proud of the rich diversity of our families and are committed to ensuring that every child feels supported, respected and able to practise their faith comfortably. If your child will be observing Ramadan and you would like any additional support during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

We are very happy to:

• Provide a quiet space for prayer during the school day

• Offer a supervised indoor space during lunchtime for pupils who are fasting

• Make reasonable adjustments to PE lessons or other physical activities where appropriate

• Be mindful of energy levels and wellbeing throughout the day

• Support with any pastoral needs your child may have during this period

We understand that every family observes Ramadan differently, and we welcome conversations about how we can best support your child. Please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance, or reach out directly to the school office.

From The Sandy Lane Team!

Dear Sandy Lane Families,

I hope that you’ve all had a lovely Easter break. I am very excited to start officially tomorrow on my first day as the new Headteacher of Sandy Lane.

Don’t forget that school starts back on Wednesday 23rd April as tomorrow is an INSET Day.

Later this week, I will be sending my first Headteacher Newsletter, which will be published fortnightly. In addition to this, we’re getting our social media accounts set up and ready to go. In the meantime, all communication will continue through: Email, Text, MCAS App and our Website so we’ll make sure you don’t miss a thing!

I’m very pleased to share some exciting news with you regarding our SEND provision here at Sandy Lane.

After a thorough recruitment process, we are delighted to welcome Mr Walsh as our new SENCO. Lloyd will be joining the team after this half-term break, officially starting on Tuesday 22nd April.

Mr Walsh brings with him a wealth of teaching experience and a strong, evidence-based approach to supporting children with SEND. He is a passionate advocate for inclusion and is deeply committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to flourish both academically and personally.

In addition to his SEND expertise, Mr Walsh also has a particular passion for STEM and Science, which we are excited to see enrich our wider curriculum.

We look forward to working with Mr Walsh and are confident that he will make a positive and lasting impact on our school community. Please join us in giving him a very warm welcome to Sandy Lane!

We are writing to you with regards to parking during school drop off and pick up times. Multiple complaints are received from residents and parents with regard to illegal, inconsiderate, and dangerous parking and driving by the parents of pupils who attend your school.

Our Enforcement Team are responsible for enforcing all schools in the borough as well as their normal enforcement duties and will aim to visit all schools as often as possible. Therefore, we ask respectfully that parents and carers park legally and safely during school drop off and pick up times.

There have been incidents of near misses reported to us through dangerous driving and parking around Sandy Lane Primary School. If this type of parking and driving continues the likelihood of an incident where a person is hit will increase. This also applies to those walking through Wick Hill car park, where there have been a number of near misses when adult pedestrians do not pay attention to their surroundings.

Please ensure that you abide by the parking restrictions in the area and of the importance of driving and parking safely.

For the safety of all – please abide by these recommendations.

We apologise for any confusion and we will of course update you in the near future with details and a formal launch date.

The vaccine is delivered in the form of a nasal spray NOT via injection

Your child’s annual flu vaccination is now due and is recommended to help protect your child against flu. We are contacting you to make you aware that your child is now eligible for their flu vaccination. This is something that we now offer to all children from Reception to Year 6 (and children with long term health conditions that put them at greater risk from flu) as part of our winter vaccination programme. We ask that you complete our online consent form, whether you consent to your child being vaccinated or not. This allows us to monitor the uptake of vaccinations within your child’s school and the wider community. See Parentmail for details.
