Monday 24th January 2022
Dear Parents/Carers
Year 6 Educational Visit to RAF Hendon – Friday 11th March 2022
To support our history learning, and as part of our WWII enquiry unit, a visit to RAF Hendon Museum in London has been organised.
During the visit the children will have the opportunity to explore the museum, looking at over 100 aircraft and exploring the role of the RAF during the Second World War. The children will also have the opportunity to experience a World War 2 classroom, and take part in a drama activity.
The children will be in small groups. They will need to wear full school uniform and a coat. Please provide your child with a packed lunch - no nuts or fizzy drinks please.
Departure from school: 9:00 am prompt
Arrival time back at school: 3:45 pm approx. Please indicate how your child will be going home on the attached slip, as they will need to be signed out.
There is a voluntary contribution of £12.50 per child which covers the cost of the coach and the workshop – entry to the museum is free of charge. Preferably, payment should be made online using Parentmail by Friday 11th February 2022. Children will not need any spending money.
If there are insufficient voluntary contributions received to cover the cost of this visit, it will have to be cancelled and all payments will be returned.
Please complete and return the attached slip and medical consent form by Friday 11th February 2022. If you are unable to make payment online, please return cash/cheque* in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with your child’s name and the amount by Friday 11th February 2022.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Bekker, Miss Graham and Mrs Waters
Cineworld Visit:
Dear Parents/Carers,
Years 3, 4 & 6 - Visit to Cineworld Bracknell
The pupils in Year 3, 4 and 6 have been invited to take part in a National Film Festival organised by Into Film at Bracknell Cineworld during the morning of 10th November 2021. The performance of “Boss Baby 2” which is rated PG will begin at 10:00 am and will end by 12:30 pm. We will be walking to the cinema and plan to leave Sandy Lane School at 9:15 am. Please ensure your child wears normal school uniform and has a waterproof coat and appropriate footwear.
The Into Film Festival vision is run in order to put film at the heart of children and young people's learning, contributing to their cultural, creative and personal development. This trip is completely free of charge and a wonderful opportunity for children to enjoy sound in a cinematic experience which will support their Enquiry learning this term.
As we will return to school during the lunch period, we ask that all children bring a packed lunch to school on this day which we will eat on our return.
If your child is entitled to a free school meal please select an option on the consent form. Packed lunches from school must be ordered in advance and will be unavailable to order on the day.
If you do not wish your child to attend the cinema, please inform the office staff as soon as possible. Please return the attached consent form no later than 20th October 2021.
We require additional parental support to accompany us on the trip. Please let your class teacher know if you are able to assist.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs Poffley

Dear Parent/Carer,
Year 6 Residential Trip to PGL Barton Hall, Torquay
Monday 7
th June - Friday 11th June 2021
Please find below information regarding the proposed Year 6 residential visit to PGL Barton
Hall, Torquay. The information within this letter outlines what the residential trip will entail, the
estimated cost of the trip and the necessary deposit.
PGL Barton Hall
We are pleased to advise you that we intend to run a Year 6 residential trip to PGL Barton
Hall, Torquay from Monday 7th to Friday 11th June 2021. This is the fourth time that Sandy
Lane have used PGL to host a residential visit and we have been impressed with the facilities
that PGL offer at their centres, the quality of instructors and high levels of health and safety.
PGL Barton Hall is situated in the heart of the English Riviera with views of Torquay. There is
a heated outdoor pool, a watersports lake for raft building and canoeing, together with facilities
to provide an amazing selection of both outdoor and indoor activities.
Please use the link below to visit the PGL website.

Activities
Barton Hall runs outdoor pursuit activities for all ages. It provides all equipment that is needed
to participate safely in activities and all the activities take place within the centre’s grounds.
The ratio of qualified instructors to children is excellent, ranging from 1 to 6 or 1 to 12
depending on the nature of the activity. We also ensure a member of Sandy Lane staff is
working with each activity group.
The activities the children usually participate in are: raft building; canoeing; rifle shooting;
climbing and abseiling; Jacob’s ladder; trapeze; giant swing and campfire night. The activities
relate to National Curriculum requirements and focus on developing the children’s confidence
and independence. By working together in teams, we aim to improve their skills of problemsolving, decision making, communication, co-operation and consideration.

In a world, with increasing restrictions on playing outdoors, PGL Barton Hall gives children the
opportunity to play and learn, in a safe outdoor environment, with expert tuition and
supervision.
Accommodation
We will stay in chalets that sleep between 4 and 6 children, all of which have ensuite facilities.
The residential element of the trip gives the children a sense of community, the opportunity to
live and work together and become more aware of the needs of others. Spending time away
from home also encourages them to be more responsible for themselves e.g. making their
own bed, arriving on time for activities, organising their clothes and equipment.
Food
Barton Hall has a spacious dining area where all dietary requirements are catered for.
Pocket Money
Included in the overall cost is £5 for pocket money for children to spend in the on-site shop.
The children do enjoy going into the shop to spend their money and they particularly enjoy
choosing small gifts to bring home to their family. No other money is required for the trip.
Travel
The residential trip will leave Sandy Lane at approximately 9:30 am on Monday 7
th June 2021
and return on the evening of Friday 11th June 2021. We will travel by coach and the journey
takes approximately 4½ hours. The children will need to bring their own packed lunch and
snack with them for the journey to Barton Hall – all other food is catered for. We will have
lunch at Barton Hall before leaving on Friday and children will be given a snack for the return
journey.
Behaviour
We aim to achieve a good team spirit amongst the children and adults on this trip, whilst
continuing to have high expectations of behaviour. The Sandy Lane adults and PGL instructors
expect the children to listen carefully and carry out instructions as requested, as this is
paramount to the safety of everyone involved on an activity. It is necessary to point out that
any child, who we feel cannot be trusted to behave appropriately, may not be able to go on
this trip, as the safety and enjoyment of everyone is our concern.
Daily Communication
Regular communication and updates will be available through the relevant Twitter feed. If there
was an exceptional circumstance or problem we would contact the Head Teacher or another
Senior Leader at school who would then contact a family member. Children do not have
access to a phone at Barton Hall and are not allowed to bring a mobile phone with them.
Cost of the Trip
The cost of next year’s trip will be approximately £375, or £190 if your child is eligible to pupil
premium funding. There is a sibling discount available which revises the costs to £290, or
£145 if your children are eligible to pupil premium funding. These costs are subject to change
dependent on final numbers.
Website: http://www.sandylanebracknell.com
The cost covers:
• Transport to and from Barton Hall
• All meals from Monday evening to Friday lunch-time (inclusive)
• Accommodation in centrally heated chalets with ensuite facilities. Pupils will need to
bring their own sleeping bag and pillow
• A structured programme of outdoor pursuit activities with qualified instructors
