YEAR 5 LETTERS

Dear Parent/Carer,

A German Breakfast for Year 5 –30th March 2022

It is my pleasure to announce that Year 5 children will be enjoying a ‘German Breakfast’ on Wednesday 30th March 2022. It will not only be a celebration of their learning this term, but most importantly, an opportunity for pupils practise their German language café style!

Please ensure that your child still has breakfast at home before coming to school because they will not be eating until 10.30am.

Children will need to come into school in their PE kits but if your child has anything else suitably German to wear such as a football top, they are welcome to bring it in but please ensure that items are named.

The menu will consist of:

  • Orange juice, apple juice or water to drink.
  • A bread roll with their choice of ham, sliced cheese, tomatoes, butter and jam.
  • Gherkins!

Food allergies - I am aware that some children in Year 5 have food allergies and I am happy to provide ‘free from’ products for these children but please let me know before Friday 25th March via email: emarshall@sandylanebracknell.com. If you would prefer to send something into school with your child, please ensure that it is stored in a container with your child’s name clearly labelled and hand it in to the main school office on the morning of the breakfast.

Guten Appetit!

 Yours faithfully,

Frau Emily Marshall

Dear Parent/Carer,

SWIMMING FOR YEAR 5 PUPILS

Next term, Year 5 children will be attending swimming lessons at Bracknell Swimarium (Harmans Water Swimming Pool). We will be attending lessons during school time for a period of 11 weeks beginning Thursday 21st April 2022. Lessons will then take place every subsequent Thursday afternoon with a break for half-term. The last lesson will be on 14th July 2022 and there will not be a lesson on 7th July 2022.

It is a requirement of the National Curriculum that we provide swimming lessons for children in KS2. Swimming lessons and the transport to the pool is expensive, and like all other schools, we face huge pressure on our budget. So, we ask parents for a voluntary contribution to cover the cost of swimming to reduce the impact on our budget. Whether you choose to pay the contribution or not, we still require consent forms back for your child to participate. Because it is a statutory requirement to do swimming lessons in school, you may opt out only for medical reasons or if you can demonstrate that your child has already reached the necessary standards which are: to swim 25m confidently, to be able to swim with range of strokes and to be able to self-rescue in a number of situations.

The cost for the course is £57.00 in total. This works out as £31.00 for the first half term and £26.00 for the second half term. Lessons can be paid for in a one-off payment for the term, two half-termly payments or instalments. If you choose to make two payments or payment in instalments, please ensure payment for the first half-term (£31.00) is made, by Friday 25th March 2022.  The second payment of £26.00 will need to be made by Friday 27th May 2022.   Preferably, payment should be made online using Parentmail. If you have any issues with this, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Please complete and return the attached slip and medical consent form by Friday 25th March 2022.  If you are unable to make payment online, please return cash/cheque in a sealed envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and the amount. Cheques should be made payable to Sandy Lane Primary School.

We will be sending a reminder letter with details of swimming kit required before we break up for the Easter holidays. If your child has never been to a swimming pool before, please take the opportunity to visit and feedback any concerns to your child’s class teacher prior to starting the sessions.
