Proposal to become an academy and join the Greenshaw Learning Trust

The Governing Body of Sandy Lane Primary School is proposing that the school should become an academy and join the Greenshaw Learning Trust, subject to due diligence and the Regional School Commissioner’s approval.

The governors and school leaders have been carefully considering the future of Sandy Lane Primary School and have concluded that it would be in the best interests of the pupils, parents, staff, and wider community of Sandy Lane for it to take advantage of the closer collaboration and stronger support it would receive by being part of a multi-academy trust. Having evaluated the options, Sandy Lane’s governing body has agreed that it should become an academy and join the Greenshaw Learning Trust.

Jenny Sachar, Co-Chair at Sandy Lane Primary School, said: “The Greenshaw Learning Trust has similar values to Sandy Lane and understands the community that we serve and the strengths and needs of our pupils.  By working with other primary schools in the Trust we will develop further skills and experience to ensure our staff and pupils are fully equipped to fulfil their academic and personal potential.”

Will Smith, CEO of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, commented: “We are delighted that Sandy Lane Primary School wants to join our family of schools. As part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, Sandy Lane will benefit from and contribute to a close collaboration of like-minded schools and high-quality support services, while retaining its character and place in the local community. We look forward to working with Sandy Lane and helping to improve the life chances of the young people in the school.”

Subject to the necessary agreements being reached between the school, the Greenshaw Learning Trust, the Department for Education, and Bracknell Forest Council, it is expected that Sandy Lane Primary School should join the Greenshaw Learning Trust on 1 September 2022.

The Greenshaw Learning Trust is well-established locally, being responsible for Crown Wood Primary School, Brakenhale School and Wildmoor Heath School, and the Trust has a strong track record of school improvement.

A message from Mr. Davies, our Headteacher....

Dear Children, Parents & Carers,

Welcome to Sandy Lane Primary School! I hope that these pages give you a feel for the ethos and aims of our warm and friendly  school. We are lucky to be a large Primary School, with extensive grounds, offering a range of activities in school and in our community. Within our larger community, we have smaller ‘phases’, enabling children to develop themselves as individuals, in small groups and as part of a larger community.  All children are supported by our caring team.

We place an explicit emphasis on developing the whole child as a person and as a learner. Our wonderful staff team and I are committed to ensuring children have a wide array of learning experiences and that we equip your children with the knowledge, skills and values that will enable them to progress in life becoming confident and responsible local, national and global citizens.  We aim to do all this in such a way that the children cannot help but smile.

One of my key aims is to foster strong links between school and home – I often talk of our school ‘family’ and positive, strong links between us are essential. Staff are available to talk to on the playground at the end of each day, as am I, and we welcome any comments, thoughts or help you can give.

We are all here to do the absolute best we can for each and every child – and together that’s what we will achieve.

If you have any questions or would like to come and look around our wonderful school, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Here’s to exciting times ahead.

Best wishes

Neil Davies
